Ian Folau is a venture capital investor, business broker, and a serial entrepreneur. After serving in the US Army for 10 years as an intelligence officer, Folau built two venture-backed tech companies, where he held roles as CEO and cofounder: ClearMix, a company helping businesses develop and execute video content strategies, and GitLinks, an enterprise platform that helped govern the use of open source technologies. Mr. Folau also founded LMI Ventures and led investments and startup partnerships for LMI, a federal government consulting firm, but more recently acts as an operating partner at Scout Ventures, a venture capital fund investing in deep-technologies that serve dual-uses for both the public and private markets. Ian Folau is the CEO of a business brokerage firm, Baton Strategies, based in Utah and also manages a private equity fund focused on acquiring and operating cash-flowing businesses.
Ian holds an MBA from Cornell University, a Master of Arts in intercultural communications and German from Middlebury College and a B.S. in systems engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point.
He lives with his wife and five kids in northern Utah and loves to coach rugby and play pickleball.
